Lorne Edgar Richards, 86, Of Poughkeepsie POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Lorne Edgar Richards, of Poughkeepsie, died Nov. 22. He was 86. He was born March 14, 1930 in Poughkeepsie. He graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1948 and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy for the next two years. He was an active member and leader in Poughkeepsie’s First Presbyterian Church from 1954 to 2009 and thereafter in the Freedom Plains United Presbyterian Church. He loved the majesty and music of a church service and especially a good sermon. …

39,000 Pounds Of Trash Removed From Hackensack River HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Hackensack Riverkeeper capped off its 2016 River Cleanup season Nov. 20 with a volunteer cleanup of Mackay Park and Metzler Brook in Englewood.  Including Sunday’s cleanup, Riverkeeper organized and conducted a total of 28 cleanups that mobilized 900 volunteers to remove more than 39,000 pounds of trash, tires, and other debris from area waterways.
