Clairol Takes Springdale Little League Title

STAMFORD, Conn. – Jonas Harper pitched a two-hitter over 5 ? innings and hit a home run for the only scoring as Clairol defeated RMS Construction, 1-0, to capture the Springdale Little League title Thursday night.

Clairol improved to 17-0, and the victory clinched the title for the second half of the season. Clairol also won the first half and earned the right to represent Springdale in the upcoming Stamford Tournament of Champions.

Harper, who has allowed only two earned runs all season, was the difference. He struck out 11 to win a tremendous pitching duel against RMS’ Bobby Cribbin, who threw a perfect game earlier this season. Cribbin’s only mistake was a hanging breaking ball that Harper crushed for a no-doubt-about-it home run in the third.

RMS threatened in the sixth. Cribbin reached on a 1-out single and alertly tagged up and went to second after an infield pop-up. Harper was relieved with one out to go after reaching the Little League pitch limit. Alex Colon came on to get the final out, a screaming line drive to short that Harper caught to end the rally.

Clairol has three games left next week in its quest for an undefeated regular season.
