Rudy Gonzalez, 19, of Stamford, was arrested after patrol officers found him in an alley and he told them he just smoked marijuana and handed over 4.5 grams of the drug to them, Sgt. Chris Broems said.

Gonzalez did not have any identification so they took him to his Lipton Place residence, where he allowed them to search the home, Broems said. Officers seized 5.8 ounces of marijuana, a scale, and packaging material, Broems said. The street value of the marijuana seized was estimated at between $3,500 and $4,000.

The suspect was charged with possession of a hallucinogen/more than four ounces of marijuana, sale of a controlled substance, and operation of a drug factory, police said. A detainer was placed on him from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement keeping him in police custody, Broems said.

Police were on patrol in the South End following up on a shooting Monday night, and became suspicious of Gonzalez after he went from Washington Boulevard to the back of 805 Atlantic St., which is a known spot for drug use, Broems said.
