Two Tennis Pros Return To Stamford's Shippan Racquet Club

DARIEN, Conn. -- Jeff Gocke, President of TennisCT, has announced the return of teaching professionals Clive Ullyett and Kevin van Rensburg.

After several years, both pros are returning to Shippan Racquet Club, where they will be offering lessons for youth and adult players. 

Ullyett was a competitive junior in Zimbabwe in both tennis and squash. After moving to South Africa, he reached the top five in the country in doubles and top 20 in singles.

As a collegiate player at the University of South Alabama, he earned All-Conference honors in 1992, '93 and '94 in doubles and was named All-American in doubles after clinching the All-American National Hard Court Championship in Austin, Texas. After his successful collegiate career, Clive played professionally for a few years and then became the assistant tennis coach for the South Alabama men's and women's teams from 1996-98. 

Ullyett has worked with nationally ranked collegiate and junior players and has been at Proform Tennis Academy since its inception. He also played a role in coaching at The Tokeneke Club and The Field Club of Greenwich. 

Van Rensburg, a native of South Africa, was the top-ranked intercollegiate player and captain of the Free State Provincial team during the South African Provincial Championships from 1995 to 2000. In 1995 and 1996, he was a member of the Federation Cup management team during the Federation Cup ties between South Africa and Bulgaria and in 1996 with Belgium. 

Since moving to the United States in 2000, van Rensburg has been a teaching professional at Kings Highway Tennis Club, Shippan Racquet Club and Proform Tennis Academy. He also was the tennis director at Rock Ridge Country Club and Noroton Yacht Club. Van Rensburg was Director of Junior Development at Proform Tennis Academy. In addition to tennis, he is certified as a coach by the Professional Platform Tennis Association.
