WalletHub: Connecticut Ranks As Third Best For Schools In The Nation

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Connecticut came out among the top tier when personal-finance website WalletHub conducted an in-depth analysis of States with the Best and Worst School Systems just in time for back to school.

In order to identify the best school systems in America, WalletHub’s analysts compared the quality of education in the 50 states and the District of Columbia based on 17 key metrics. The data set ranges from pupil-teacher ratio to dropout rate to average SAT and ACT scores. Connecticut finished third overall behind neighboring Massachusetts and New Jersey. Vermont and Wisconsin rounded out the top five. 

The overall scores for Connecticut are as follows: 

  • 11th – Bullying-Incidents Rate 
  • 23rd – Math Test Score 
  • Fourth – Reading Test Score 
  • Sixth – Pupil-Teacher Ratio 
  • 13th – Dropout Rate
  • 22nd – School Safety
  • First – Average ACT Score 
  • 27th – Percentage of Licensed/Certified Public K–12 Teachers 

As for the other end of the spectrum, the bottom of the chart was District of Columbia, Arizona, Alaska, New Mexico and Louisiana in last. Neighboring New York finished 25th and Rhode Island was 28the.
