The organization expanded from its first year, when it gave out 12 rewards, a news release said. Of the 20 scholarships given out this year, 10 were sponsored by local companies and individuals, the release said.
Superintendent of Schools Winifred Hamilton and magician Ryan Oakes, who presented on “The Magic of Education,” both spoke at the event. Oakes is a graduate of Westhill High School and University of Pennsylvania.
More than 100 people attended the ceremony, which was held at UConn-Stamford.
