This program, now in its 38th year, focuses on essential elements affecting the college planning and application process.

Claire Friedlander, JFS college consultant, will moderate the panel discussion. JFS College Ahead! is co-sponsored by JFS and the Stamford JCC.

Everyone in the community is invited to attend at no cost, and no registration is required.

The admissions deans who will comprise this year’s panel are: William Douglas Zander, director of admissions, University of Delaware; Greg Zaiser, vice president of admission and financial planning, Elon University in North Carolina; and Jennifer Fondiller, dean of enrollment management, Barnard College in New York.

From a national perspective, the guests will address the important college admissions issues facing applicants and will give the audience an overview of their institutions.

Each panelist will also speak about Jewish life and activities on their respective campuses. Issues that will be addressed include:

  • How to decide whether to apply “early” or “regular” admissions.
  • How can high school students prepare for the revised format SAT.
  • Should you still take standardized tests if the college states it is “SAT/ACT optional” and how many times?
  • How much does applying for financial aid affect the admissions decision?
  • When is the best time to visit a college?
  • Should you attend the information session and take the campus tour, etc?

Panelists will answer questions from attendees as well.
