Officers from the Westport Police Department were dispatched to Compo Beach at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, where there were reports of a woman - later identified as Middletown resident Jacqueline Bracht, 34 - who was driving the wrong way on Soundview Drive and struck a Parks and Recreation employee in the leg as he was attempting to avoid an accident.

Police said that when the employee attempted to stop the operator to inform her she was driving the wrong way, the vehicle initially stopped, but then accelerated and left as the employee approached the car. As the vehicle left, it struck the victim’s leg.

Later that day, at approximately 3 p.m., officers were again dispatched, this time to Black Duck Cafe, where there was a new report of a woman who left a cab, unable to pay her fare. She was offered a ride back to her car by officers, where she alleged her money was being kept.

Upon arrival at the vehicle, officers noted that it matched the description of the vehicle involved in the previous incident involving the Parks employee, and when asked to provide identification, officers said that Bracht “became agitated, uncooperative and refused to provide her ID,” which led to her being placed in handcuffs.

Once Bracht was properly identified, she was subsequently arrested and charged with larceny, interfering with an officer and reckless driving. Bracht was initially held on $1,500 bond, which was later reduced by a judge and she was released on her own recognizance. She is due back in Norwalk Justice Court on April 17 to answer the charges.
