According to Stamford Police Sgt. Jennifer Pinto, the woman came out of the Wells Fargo ATM at the corner of Main and Atlantic streets about 4:40 p.m. Monday and was looking at her cell phone when she felt someone trying to pull her purse off her shoulder.

The woman turned and saw a teenage male who had grabbed the strap and was trying to get away with the purse. But the woman had other ideas, and pulled back with the tug-of-war moving into the middle of the street, Pinto said.

When the woman refused to let go, Pinto said the teen threatened: “Let go or I’ll shoot you.”

The woman continued to fight and eventually, the teen let go and ran southbound on Atlantic Street, Pinto said.

Police are reviewing security cameras in the area in hopes of identifying the teen, she said.

The woman was not injured during the struggle.
