Arthur Kelly of Southington was driving a 1941 Willys Model 441 on North Main St., in Southington, when he crossed the double yellow lines near Dunkin Donuts and collided with a parked, unoccupied vehicle off the road and shoulder, said Southington Police Sgt. Jeffrey Dobratz.
Kelly was ejected from his vehicle and sustained serious injuries. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, Dobratz said.
The classic car also received heavy damage, he added.
The parked vehicle sustained moderate damage. There were no other injuries reported. The road was closed for several hours while the crash was being investigated.
"You would always see him (Kelly) around town in the car and at special community events," Dobratz said.
Willys is known for creating some of the most iconic cars, with only 22,000 produced. Considered a "hot rod," the 1941 Willys, was smaller than some muscle cars, and sported an SV I-4 134.2 cubic inch engine, with 63 horsepower.
