A Stamford graduation party with at least 200 students attending ended with two shot and police trying to identify who fired the shots.

Stamford police responded to the “out-of-control” graduation party around 11:30 p.m. Saturday on Durant Street after receiving several calls from area neighbors complaining of the noise and later of gunshots, said Stamford Police Sgt. Paul Guzda.

By the time officers arrived two people had been shot and the partygoers were fleeing the area, he said.

Guzda said people at the party were picking up on "bad vibes" and the word was going around that 'something bad" was going to happen, causing most to quickly leave the area.

Apparently, two people had gotten into an argument at the party and when everyone left, some people came through a yard behind the party house and that's when shots rang out, he said.

A 16-year-old boy was shot three times, in the buttocks and in the stomach, with one of the bullets piercing his intestines, requiring surgery, Guzda said.

An 18-year-old woman was also shot in the left thigh. None of the wounds are life-threatening, Guzda said.

"We are investigating and looking for surveillance cameras in the area," he said.

Investigators are also encouraging anyone with information to contact police at 203 977-4417.
