Stop Of BMW At Stamford Hotel Nets Suspects With 300 Bags Of Heroin

A tip that a known drug dealer was headed to the LaQuinta Inn in Stamford to make a sell led police to 300 bags of heroin among other drugs.

Members of the Stamford Police Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit, SRT and patrol units nabbed Steven Hutchinson, 29, of Bridgeport, about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, after stopping his gray BMW as he arrived at the hotel on Harvard Avenue to make the deal, said Capt. Richard Conklin.

When officers approached they noticed he tossed a black container between his legs. When officers searched the container they found it was filled with rice to keep the 300 bags of heroin inside dry, Conklin said. 

Hutchinson, who is on federal parole on a weapons charges, just got out of prison in April, Conklin said. 

"He has served time and been arrested for drugs and weapons," Conklin said. 

His passenger, Rashad Heard, 28, also of Bridgeport, was arrested. He is also on federal parole, Conklin said.

"At $20 a piece on the street, this is another good bust by the unit as we continue to target the drug epidemic," Conklin said.  

Hutchinson, who is being held on $750,000, which will be changed to no bail through the federal parole system, was charged with numerous charges including possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell and possession with intent to commit conspiracy.
