STAMFORD, Conn. -- A woman and her alleged taxi driver/supplier are face drug charges after they were caught in the act of what Stamford police said was a drug deal Tuesday.
Tara Palompelli, 36, of 65 McArthur Lane, Stamford, was charged with one count of possession of narcotics, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
Joseph Spencer, 59, of 257 High Ridge Drive, Bridgeport, was charged with two counts of sale of illegal drugs and one count of sale of controlled substance.
Capt. Richard Conklin said police had received complaints of suspicious activity on McArthur Lane with vehicles, often taxis, coming back and forth to the same residence with small packages being exchanged.
Often vehicles went to the residence four to five times a day, Conklin said.
The Narcotic and Organized Crime Squad set up surveillance and on Tuesday afternoon they pounced. Officers watched as Palompelli made an exchange with the driver, who was later identified as Spencer, he said.
Officers approached the vehicle and found Palompelli sitting in the passenger seat, Conklin said.
Officers discovered several bags of marijuana in the taxi as well as three folders of powered cocaine, totaling about one gram and about 10 grams of marijuana, Conklin said.
Inside the residence, officers discovered 36.5 Xanax pills, Conklin said.
Police also seized $1,059 from Palompelli, who told officers that she acted as "a low level drug dealer to support her habit," Conklin said.
Spencer told police that he would pick up the drugs in the Bronx, N.Y., and deliver them to Palompelli, Conklin said.
McArthur Lane is located in Westover, just off Doolittle Road.
