On Sunday, police received information that Michael "Murdah" McFarlane, 20, was on a train headed toward Bridgeport after visiting friends in Stamford, police said. MTA police were notified and given a description of McFarlane, police said. MTA officers located him and took him into custody as he was attempting to leave the train, police said.

A loaded .32-caliber was found in McFarlane's jacket pocket, police said. He was then handed over to Stamford police.

Stamford had two warrants for McFarlane's arrest in connection with serious assaults invovling a handgun earlier this year, police said. The first incident occurred June 25, when he was accused of pistol whipping a female friend in Friendship Park on Richmond Hill, police said.

The same day, McFarlane attempted to rob another acquaintance, police said. When the 21-year-old man refused to give in, McFarlane pulled out a gun, shot several rounds at the man and ran south on Richmond Hill Avenue, police said.

The man was shot twice and survived, police said. A third round hit an unrelated vehicle that had a family with a small child inside it, police said.

McFarlane was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon and possession of a pistol without a permit for the incident on the Metro-North trains. He was charged with second-degree assault in the pistol-whipping incident at Friendship Park and first-degree assault and first-degree reckless endangerment in the shooting on Richmond Hill.

He was held on a total bond of $750,000 for all the charges.
