A Stamford man was charged with ID theft and forgery after attempting to cash fraudulent checks at a Greenwich bank.
Giovanni Ortiz, 26, was arrested Monday after police responded to the People's United Bank on Post Road for the report of a man attempting to cash fraudulent checks, said Lt. John Slusarz.
An investigation revealed that Ortiz had cashed a fake check and was attempting to cash another one, police said.
Once arrested, police discovered that he was also wanted by the state for violation of strict and intensive supervision and treatment on the conditions of his parole.
He is being held without bail.
