Stamford Man Charged With Gun Violations

STAMFORD, Conn. – A Stamford man was arrested Friday night and faces weapons charges after police say he was caught with a 9 mm handgun on Custer Street.

According to Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin, a unit from narcotics and organized crime was patrolling at about 7 p.m. Friday when officers saw a group of about 25 men on Custer Street. One of the men, later identified as Williams, broke away from the group and hid something behind a tree, Conklin said. The officers called for uniformed backup, then searched and found the handgun, Conklin said.

Lonnie Williams, 26, a convicted felon with multiple armed robbery and narcotics arrests, was charged with criminal possession of a firearm and altering the ID of a firearm. He is being held on $100,000 bond with a July 27 court date.

Police are investigating whether the weapon is connected to a pair of homicides on Custer Street earlier this week.
