STAMFORD, CONN. – An intrepid homeowner helped Stamford police by detaining a suspect who had just broken into his home, the Stamford Advocate reported.

Police told the Advocate that they were chasing Dante Newton on Sunday, Dec. 28, after spotting him with a lit joint on Virgil Street.

After stashing a pistol under a porch, Newton ran inside a house and asked the homeowner to be let through so he could escape, the story said.

Instead, the homeowner grabbed Newton and handed him over to police, who charged him with gun possession, marijuana possession, and resisting arrest, the story said.
