STAMFORD, Conn., -- A freak accident sent one person to the hospital on Thursday when a vehicle hit a man working on a car on Greenwood Hill Street in Stamford.

According to Stamford Fire Capt. Matthew Palmer, a driver in a parking lot was trying to back up and lost control of the car which slammed through a fence hitting a man who was working on a car at a business behind the parking lot.

The person was injured and transported to Stamford Hospital, Palmer said.

"It was just a freak event that the man would be standing there working on a car at the moment the driver lost control of his car," Palmer said. "He had just arrived to work on the car when he was hit."

Firefighters from Engine 3 and Truck 3 helped the resident after he was hit. EMS 3 transported the man to the hospital.
