Patient Punches ER Nurse, Stamford Police Say

STAMFORD, Conn., -- As a nurse leaned in to help a man complaining of chest pains the man punched her in the chest, Stamford Police said.

Ricardo Enrique Gomez, 30, of 19 Hazel St., is charged with one count of third-degree assault on medical personnel. He had been treated for chest pains and released earlier Wednesday morning from Stamford Hospital. He returned to the hospital's emergency room around noon police said once again complaining of chest pains.

"The nurse leaned over and he punched her square in the chest caused her to stumble back, bang into a movable table and fall," Sgt. Christopher Broems said.

The nurse was treated and released from the scene as well, Broems said.
