Richard Dufresne, 44, of Poughquag, N.Y., was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, operating a crane without a license and operating an unregistered crane, a release from State Police said. He was held on $1,500 bond and was scheduled to appear in court June 28.

He was arrested Wednesday, and at that time was operating a different crane, which was also unregistered, state police said.

Dufresne was operating the crane in the marina at Avalon Bay on May 22 and attempted to make a lift when it toppled into the water, state police said. No one was injured in the accident, but at least one boat in the marina was damaged, state police said.

The crane is owned by Concavage Marine Construction, where Dufresene is employed.

The case was still under investigation.
