A Bridgeport man took police in Norwalk on a wild chase after attempting to flee from a motor vehicle crash, fleeing on foot and resisting arrest before being brought into custody.

An officer from the Patrol Division of the Norwalk Police Department received notification of a motorist attempting to flee the scene of an accident shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning. Minutes later, he spotted a car traveling on Water Street with “significant” front-end damage.

Police said that the officer, suspecting that this was the evading vehicle attempted to pull over the driver - later identified as 20-year-old Luis Garcia - on the Stroffolino Bridge, but he refused and proceeded to pull away before coming to a stop in a Fort Point Street driveway.

As police pulled up the driveway, officers said that Garcia took off on foot and a short pursuit ensued before the officer tackled him to the ground, where officials said he actively resisted arrest. Garcia was eventually subdued and taken into custody, and investigators later determined that he had been driving a stolen Nissan Maxima from Middletown.

Garcia was arrested and charged with first-degree larceny, interfering with an officer, criminal impersonation, engaging pursuit, reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle under suspension and misuse of a marker plate. Following arraignment, he was remanded in lieu of $100,000 bond.
