WESTPORT, Conn. — A Stamford man and a Norwalk man were arrested after a motor vehicle stop in Westport after a police K9 found a loaded gun and drugs in the car, police said.

At 2:45 p.m. Thursday, Officer Kevin Smith spotted a car with an improperly displayed license plate that was registered to a different motor vehicle, police said.

When Smith stopped the car on Saugatuck Avenue near Duck Pond Road, he detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside, police said.

A Norwalk Police K9 unit was brought to the scene to search the vehicle, police said.

K-9 Kai indicated on the center console of the car, where a loaded handgun was found, police said.

A total of 46 Methylone pills, plastic bags containing 12 grams of marijuana and money believed to be proceeds from narcotics sales were found inside a coffee mug in the center console, police said.

Additionally, a soda can with a hidden compartment containing five small glassine baggies of crack cocaine and a scale were found inside the vehicle, police said.

The driver was identified as Abdullah Seifullah, 37, of Stamford, and the passenger was identified as Jerrod Smalls, 36, of Norwalk.

Officers determined that Seifullah was the subject of a protective order and is not permitted to possess firearms, police said. Both Seifullah and Smalls were taken into custody and transported to police headquarters for processing.

Seifullah was charged with two counts of sale of hallucinogen/narcotic, sale of a controlled substance, carrying a pistol or revolver without a permit, weapons in a vehicle, criminal possession of a pistol or revolver and criminal violation of a protective order.

Seifullah was also issued a misdemeanor summons for misuse of plates/license/registration, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and insurance coverage fails minimum requirements.

Smalls was charged with two counts of sale of hallucinogen/narcotic, sale of controlled substance, carrying a pistol or revolver without a permit, weapons in a vehicle, and criminal possession of pistol or revolver.

Each man was held on $100,000 bond. They will be transported to Norwalk Court for arraignment on Jan. 12 if they are unable to post bond. They are scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Jan. 25.

The Westport Police Department thanks the Norwalk Police Department K-9 unit for their quick response and assistance.
