STAMFORD, Conn. — The body of a man was pulled from Stamford Harbor on Friday afternoon after residents said someone had disappeared underwater while swimming, the Stamford Advocate said.

The man was rushed to Stamford Hospital, where efforts to resuscitate him failed and he was declared dead, the Advocate said.

Police received 911 calls from residents at about 11:15 a.m. from residents on Harbor Drive and Downs Avenue that a man was struggling about 50 feet from shore just outside the East Branch of Stamford Harbor, the Advocate said.

Police were working to confirm the man’s identity, the Advocate said.
