A Stamford man was arrested by police for punching another man in the face at a popular Harbor Point bar with a loaded gun in his pocket, according to Stamford Police.
John Neenan, 48, who had a permit to carry the 9mm semi-automatic Smith & Wesson pistol, was charged with being intoxicated while carrying his gun, assault and illegal possession of a high capacity magazine.
According to Capt. Richard Conklin, police were called to the Sign of the Whale at 10:30 p.m. Sunday night on the report of a man being held by security guards who just assaulted another man.
The man who was punched in the face was knocked out and fell, receiving a laceration to his face. He was taken to Stamford Hospital for treatment, Conklin said.
When police arrived, Neenan told them he had the gun and police confiscated it, finding it was loaded with an illegal high-capacity 12-round magazine which was loaded with nine hollow-point bullets, Conklin said.
Although Neenan told police the man bumped into him, Conklin said the whole incident was captured on video surveillance and that several witnesses came forward to confirm Neenan was the aggressor.
Conklin said Neenan’s gun and permit to carry his pistol were taken by police and turned over to state police who will decide whether or not to revoke his license.
Neenan was released after posting a $10,000 court appearance bond.
