Stamford Police have identified a woman who suffered life-threatening injuries after being hit while crossing a downtown street, according to Stamford Police.

Benita Muralles, 69, a long-time Stamford resident, is expected to undergo surgery for injuries she suffered after being hit around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, said Stamford Police Sgt. Andrew Gallagher.

According to police, Muralles, who is in intensive care, was crossing Grove Street at Main Street when she was hit by a 17-year-old Stamford resident driving a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro.

Gallagher said that Muralles was walking against the crossing signal and the teen had a green light to proceed. The teen remained at the scene.

The woman was rushed to Stamford Hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The teen has not been charged in the incident, Gallagher said.

The accident is under investigation. Witnesses are asked to contact Officers Jeffrey Booth or Ryan McAllister at 203-977-4712.
