Fairfield Woman Hit, Killed By Car As She Crosses Street In Stamford

Updated: STAMFORD, Conn. — A 59-year-old Fairfield woman was hit by a car and killed as she crossed the street near I-95 in downtown Stamford on her way to work Tuesday morning, police said.

The woman was in a crosswalk on Elm Street at 7:09 a.m. on her way to work at the new Henkel headquarters when she was hit, the Stamford Advocate said. 

She was hit by a 2016 Dodge Ram van that was traveling south on Elm Street and turning onto North State Street, police said. A pedestrian was on North State Street intending to cross from the northwest corner to the northeast corner when the collision occurred, police said.

The van driver, a 38-year-old Stamford man, stopped at the scene and stayed to cooperate with the investigation, police said.

The woman was transported to Stamford Hospital by Stamford EMS ambulance, police said. 

She died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash a short time after arriving at the hospital, police said. 

She is a 59 year old Fairfield resident whose name is being withheld to allow notification of family members, police said.

The Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is investigating the accident.
