The incident took place on Saturday, Dec. 15, when the woman told officers she had placed outgoing payment in the mailbox located at the Post Office at 30 Corbin Drive in early November, said Darien Det. James Palmieri.

The woman added that she was recently notified that the intended recipient had not received the payment, at which time she discovered it has been cashed fraudulently on Nov. 6.

The check had been made out in the amount of $334.83.
