The shooting took place just after 9 p.m. in front of 289 Willow Street in Bridgeport as the boy stood in front of a duplex, said Terron Jones, spokesman for the Bridgeport Police Department.

He was struck at least twice by gunfire, Jones added. The victim, identified by News12, as Clinton Howell, was transported by medics to Bridgeport Hospital and was pronounced dead a short time later.

"It does not appear at this point that the victim was the intended target," Jones said. "Detectives are working several leads, and have made swift progress in the investigation."

The official identity of the victim is pending examination at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The boy's death was the city’s 11th homicide victim of the year.
