Harold 'Ritz' Wahnowsky, 89, Stamford Resident, Supervisor At Pitney-Bowes

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Harold "Ritz" Wahnowsky died Monday, Oct. 5, at Stamford Hospital. 

Wahnowsky was born Sept. 9, 1926, in Stamford to Klement and Pauline (Bodick) Wahnowsky. 

He graduated from Stamford High School in 1944. He served in and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy during World War II. He returned to Stamford and worked more than 40 years as a supervisor in production control for Pitney-Bowes. 

For many years he was a member of the Stamford Boys Club and served as a counselor and cook at its summer camp. He also sang with The Cappella Russian Male Chorus of New York City, which traveled nationally and performed at Carnegie Hall. He was an avid golfer, had a passion for all sports and was a member of the Glenbrook AC. 

He is survived by his wife, Genevieve "Jean" (Choma) Wahnowsky; three children, sons, Harold Wahnowsky Jr. and his wife, Terri, of Weare, N.H., Michael Wahnowsky and his wife, Karyn, of Stamford, and daughter Andrea (Wahnowsky) Iasillo and her husband, Donald, of Bow, N.H.; a sister-in-law, Violet Wahnowsky of Kentucky; and five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 

Besides his parents he was pre-deceased by four brothers and two sisters. 

Family and friends will be received at the Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Ave., Stamford, on Friday, Oct. 9 from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Panahida service at 7 p.m. to be officiated by the Rev. Vladimir Horoszczak. 

A funeral service will be celebrated Saturday, Oct. 10, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Holy Assumption Russian Orthodox Church, 141 Den Road, Stamford, where he was a lifelong parishioner and member of the choir. Interment will follow at the Fairfield Memorial Park, 230 Oaklawn Ave,, Stamford.
