STAMFORD, Conn. -- Stamford Mayor David Martin is calling on residents to double their water conservation efforts amid the current drought.
"Because Aquarion’s reservoirs are less than one-half full and significantly below historical averages, we are asking residents to stop the use of outdoor watering devices, including irrigation systems, sprinklers, and soaker hoses ," Martin said in a statement.
Martin went on to say that all city agencies and departments are in compliance with water conservation efforts. Martin is hoping residents will comply with the ban on irrigation systems and sprinklers for the rest of the season.
Drought conditions that have plagued the region throughout much of the spring and summer are g rowing worse in Fairfield County , with the National Weather Service now grading drought conditions in southern Connecticut as "severe."
