Unhealthy Air Quality In Forecast For Stamford As Heat Wave Hits

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has forecast unhealthy air quality for most of the state for the next few days.

Sensitive groups are being advised to take care in these areas:

  • Sunday from Fairfield County eastward along the Interstate 95 corridor.
  • Monday in all of Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex and New London counties.

What the forecast means is there is a stronger than normal chance of respiratory issues for children and adults. The elderly and those with asthma and other respiratory diseases should take special care to protect themselves, the state said.

“It’s been several weeks since our last official heat wave, so I want to remind everyone to take simple precautions when temperatures are high and air quality is poor,” said Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Commissioner Robert Klee in a statement. “If you find yourself outdoors for work or enjoying one of our great state parks, be sure to drink plenty of water and get to an air conditioned room if you need to cool down and catch your breath.”

The weather forecast through at least Monday is predicted to have highs in the upper 80s to low 90s with southwesterly flowing hot and humid air dominating the area.
