The winning Powerball numbers drawn that day were 4, 8, 19, 27, 34 and Powerball 10. That drawing was for the record jackpot of $1.5 billion. Three winning tickets were sold for that jackpot, but none in Connecticut.
Veloz’s “Quick Pick” ticket matched the first five winning numbers drawn but missed the Powerball number. Of the 350,629 prize-winning Powerball tickets sold in Connecticut for that date, three contained a five-number match for the $1 million prize.
“That’s fantastic news,” said Glen Scali upon learning that his store, Grocery Express located at 1429 E. Putnam St. in Old Greenwich, had sold the $1 million prize-winning ticket. “We’re very happy that one of our customers was lucky enough to win a million dollars. It’s great to see.”
Grocery Express will receive a $2,500 check from the CT Lottery for selling the ticket.
The third winner in Connecticut has not yet come forward to claim the $1 million prize. That ticket was sold in Hartford County, according to CT Lottery officials.
The first winner to come was first-time lottery player Andrew Norberg of New London. He is a graduate of the Coast Guard Academy in New London and an instructor there. He bought his ticket in New London.
