Stamford Receives State Clean Energy Award

STAMFORD, Conn. - The City of Stamford has been honored as a Silver Recipient at the Clean Energy Communities awards ceremony.

More than 145 Connecticut municipalities were honored in October for their participation in the nationally-recognized Clean Energy Communities program, an Energize Connecticut initiative that incentivizes cities and towns to support energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Stamford was honored for doing the following:

Becoming the sixth city in the country to achieve 2030 District designation.
Converting street lights to LEDs starting in 2011.
Having 4,503 (9 percent) of its homes participate in residential energy-saving programs.
Having 554 (11 percent) of its business and municipal energy-saving projects install solar photovoltaic systems at Rogers International Environmental Magnet School and Sofield Middle School.
Partnering with the U.S. Department of Energy's Rooftop Solar Challenge grant program.

The ceremony was highlighted by keynote speaker Lynne Hamjian, the deputy director of the office of ecosystem protection for the Environmental Protection Agency New England.
