STAMFORD, Conn. As the leader of the investigation bureau for the Stamford Police Department, Capt. Richard Conklin earned just more than $277,000, making him the highest paid city employee in 2011, according to data from the citys payroll office.
Conklin made $90,600 in extra duty pay. That gave him about $70,000 more pay than Interim Superintendent Winifred Hamilton, who was No. 2, and $72,000 more than Sgt. Thomas Scanlon, who was third. Rounding out the Top 5 were Assistant Superintendent Louise Spolowitz, who made $198,000, and No. 5, Sgt. Wayne Scutari, earning just less than $197,000, the data said.
The list contains 75 members of various ranks from the police department, however Chief Robert Nivakoff did not crack the Top 100.
Eleven public school principals are on the list, including Westhill principal Camille Figluizzi at No. 28 and Stamford High principal Donna Valentine at No. 59. Paul Gross, principal at the Academy of Information, Technology & Engineering, did not come in the Top 100, according to the data.
The highest paid, non-police or school employee for 2011 was William Price, an Operations Supervisor, who came in at No. 26 earning just under $166,000, the data said. Other notable people to make the list are Mayor Michael Pavia at No. 81, and Fire Chief Antonio Conte at No. 50, according to the data.
