Stamford To End the Summer With a Bang

STAMFORD, Conn. — Come Sept. 1, Stamford will have the fireworks show it missed on July 4. The end-of-summer blast, dubbed Celebrate Stamford, will be presented thanks to the combined efforts of the city, itsrelevant.com and Harbor Point Development.

“If we can make it happen the way I think it will happen, this will be the beginning of fireworks on the Fourth of July again,” Mayor Michael Pavia said at a press conference Thursday.

After the city decided not to have July 4th fireworks for a second straight year, Harlan Neugeboren, CEO of itsrelevant.com, saw an opportunity to give back to Stamford and approached Pavia with the idea.

“We still have time to do it--very little time--but still time,” Pavia said. The idea for the Labor Day weekend celebration came to fruition quickly and did not leave much time for planning, the mayor said.

Independence Day fireworks were scrapped in 2010 for budgetary reasons so cuts wouldn't have to be made in other departments, he said.

Residents will be able to view the show at Southfield, Harbor Point and Kosciuszko Park. The latter will also have musical acts and dancers from 5 to 8:15 p.m. before the pyrotechnics, a press release said.

Details about traffic and parking will be announced later.
