Leamon will replace C. Dean Maglaris, who had been head of the board since 2011.

The board of directors is the global health organization's overseer. In 2014, the organization delivered enough medicine for 9 million prescriptions worldwide.

Leamon has been in the professional services field for 40 years, working for Deloitte. He retired as Deloitte's global managing director in 2012.

“I am immensely proud of the work AmeriCares has done to help save lives and improve health all over the globe,” Leamon said in a statement. “As chairman, I want AmeriCares to increase its impact and help even more people in crisis here in the U.S. and abroad.”

He also serves on several other boards, including the University of Cincinnati Foundation’s board of trustees, the Greenwich Leadership Forum and Korn Ferry International.
