STAMFORD, Conn. -- Imagine an eating plan where you can eat a piece of cheese with a glass of wine. But don't skip the cheese, said Bob Nevins, the founder of Slim Nation, which recently opened a location in Stamford.

His customized eating plans are designed to help clients take weight off and keep it off by eating. Slim Nation helps people drop weight by customizing their meal plans to maximize the body's metabolism.

"We don't sell you food. We tailor your diet based on foods you like that you can buy at your own supermarket then we tell you when to eat those foods," Nevins said in an interview.

"Our coaches meet first with a client. We take your weight and measurements. We find out what is it they enjoy eating. If you tell me you don't like a vegetable, then that vegetable won't be on your plan."

Slim Nation has three other Connecticut locations. Nevins, a person trainer for more than 30 years, said the secret to weight loss success is tailoring the diet to boost metabolism and burn fat.

"Once you tell us the foods you like, we give you instructions on how to eat those foods for two days. Then on the third day, you can eat anything you like."

So, for instance, "If you tell me you like eating a bagel with cream cheese, then on the third day you can eat that bagel," he continued.

The reasons his diet works, Nevins maintained, is switching out the way you eat every day tricks the metabolism, which remains constant if you make no dietary changes.

"You have to eat frequently and more often," Nevins said.

The focus of the plan is to lose inches and fat. "So we change the way you eat every single day. Your metabolism expects the same pattern so it stays the same. But if you change the routine, the metabolism gets confused and fat burning occurs

Clients generally check in once every two weeks with their coach. Meal plans are revised if they're not satisfied with what they're eating.

"The most effective way to stimulate the metabolism is to eat frequently and more often."

And though certain diets center on burning fat and increasing metabolism, he insists that an eating plan will not be effective unless you're eating the things you enjoy.

"You're just not going to stick with it," said Nevins.
