It is based on Roald Dahl’s fantastical tale of a boy, his insect friends, and their amazing journey across the ocean on a giant peach of fruit. Featuring a wickedly tuneful score by the Tony Award-nominated team of Pasek and Paul ("Dogfight" and "A Christmas Story the Musical") and a curiously quirky book by Timothy Allen McDonald (Roald Dahl’s "Willy Wonka").
"James and the Giant Peach" Jr. is performed by MTC School of Performing Arts students in grades 1 through 5. The cast includes Ana Brodows, Jasmin Cipriano, Raquel Dembin, Amelia Lanni, Cessa Lewis, Andrew Maskoff, Madelyn Spera and Ruby Tarshis of Westport; Chloe Curvat, Stephanie Field, Ari Frimmer, Jonah Frimmer and Henry McElligott of Weston; Sara Levitt, Claire Ponomarenko, Hannah Pressman and Michael Scholl of Fairfield; Matthew Millien of Norwalk, Julia Holmes of Rowayton and Olivia Sosa of Stamford.
The production is directed by Deborah Levy with musical direction and choreography by Sarah Pero. Scenic design by Carl Tallent, costumes by Diane Vanderkroef and lighting by Joshua Scherr. The student assistant director is Maiya Urquhart.
The production will take place on Saturday, Jan.9 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 10 at 2 p.m. at Music Theatre of Connecticut, 509 Westport Avenue (behind Nine West) in Norwalk.
