STAMFORD, Conn. — The fourth annual Stamford Hospital Health Wellness & Sports Expo kicks off Saturday at Chelsea Piers Connecticut with free health screenings, a walk-run event and a food drive.

The expo, which offers free admission and parking, will begin Saturday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and run until Sunday, Oct. 18, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Vicki Hoffman, director of the Orthopedic Service Line at Stamford Hospital, said many staff members from the hospital will interact with the public at the event.

“As the corporate sponsor for the expo, Stamford Hospital will have a large presence there in terms of highlighting a number programs and services we offer,” Hoffman said. “We will be offering free health screenings.”

The results of those screenings will be offered to participants while they’re still at the expo, Hoffman said.

Participants can also record the results of those screenings in a Wellness Passport, which is new this year. Hoffman said the passport provides documentation that participants can show to their doctors or provide a point of reference at a later date.

Hoffman said previous expos have been well-attended. Four thousand participants — many health-minded people — have showed up in the past.

“We’re here not just to take care of folks when they’re not well but help them maintain their wellness,” Hoffman said. “So being able to participate in an event like this is rewarding for us.”

The event will have a community service aspect as well. Participants are invited to bring canned food, which they can drop in bins on the way into Chelsea Piers Connecticut.

Before the expo, TMK Sports & Entertainment is holding a Run Walk for Health & Hunger to benefit The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County.

The event will kick off at 8:30 a.m., Saturday Oct. 17 starting and finishing at Chelsea Piers Connecticut.

Stamford Mayor David Martin is scheduled to officially start the event.

Organizers said the event is the only run walk in Fairfield County that specifically supports hunger. All of the event’s net proceeds and funds raised by teams will be donated to The Food Bank, according to organizers.

Chelsea Piers Connecticut is located at 1 Blachley Road in Stamford.
