STAMFORD, Conn. -- The United Jewish Federation of Greater Stamford, in partnership with the Stamford Board of Rabbis, will present Shabbat Across Stamford at 5 p.m. Friday, March 4.
The greater Stamford Jewish community will join hundreds of Jewish congregations across the country to participate in the 20th Annual Shabbat Across America.
For the second year, Stamford will celebrate with Jews of all different denominations under one roof. In a historic show of unity, Reform, Conservative, Orthodox, Reconstructionist and unaffiliated Jews will celebrate Shabbat together at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Summer Street.
The evening will consist of candle lighting, two services – to provide engaging choices for all participants – a catered Shabbat dinner and the opportunity to learn with Ruth Messinger, the president of the American Jewish World Service. Among her numerous accolades, Messinger has been named one of the 50 most influential Jews of the year by the Forward for the last five years.
In February 2006, in honor of her tireless work to end the genocide in Darfur, Sudan, Messinger received the Jewish Council for Public Affairs’ prestigious Albert D. Chernin Award.
