STAMFORD, Conn. -- The Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Stamford is hosting Jonathan Fast, author of the forthcoming book "Beyond Bullying" and an expert on school-based violence, as a guest speaker during its Sunday worship service on Nov. 1 at 10 a.m.

Fast, son of noted novelist Howard Fast, will explore how “shame” leads to various forms of harassment and violence, including bullying, domestic violence, racism, homophobia and school shootings. He will also lead a public discussion on how shame impacts on bullying and other forms of violence after the worship service.

Fast is an associate professor of social work at Yeshiva University in New York City. He is author of numerous books, including a number of novels in the 1980s. He is also the author of numerous academic articles on school-based violence. His 2008 book, "Ceremonial Violence: A Psychological Explanation of School Shootings" explored the mass killings at Columbine High School. He has worked as a consultant to school districts and government agencies. For more on Fast, go here .

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation is at 20 Forest St., at Forest and Prospect streets. Parking is available in the Bedford Street garage. For more information, contact the UUC office at 203-348-0708 or visit here .
