Little Box Pizza Serves Up Tasty Pie, Second Chances In Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. — James Gibson grew up in Bridgeport and Norwalk, his life filled with gangs, jail time and personal pain.

With a family to support, he was determined to change his destiny, but found himself underemployed and struggling to make ends meet.

Enter Little Box Pizza — a new socially conscious, quality driven food enterprise now on the Stamford scene.

Founded by restaurateurs Brad Nagy and Angelo Viscoso, the concept is deceptively simple: Little Box Pizza takes the wildly popular food truck model and pairs the mobile kitchen with a deserving, hard-working individual looked for a second chance to make his or her future brighter.

“We invest financially and personally to create a special small business opportunity for each owner and their family,” said Nagy. “We believe that when the right people are given an opportunity, amazing things happen.”

And he should know. He and Viscoso are the duo behind Frankie & Fanucci’s Wood Oven Pizzeria of Westchester County, N.Y.; Sotto 13 in Manhattan; and il Fornetto in Brooklyn.

Little Box Pizza’s first location is at the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford, also known as the “Fish Church,” at 1101 Bedford Street. The mobile truck will stay in one place, operating as a pizza kitchen from which orders are taken and pizza is picked up or even delivered by a driver.

Customers can order their personal or large pies truck-side at the kiosk or online or satisfy their pizza fix by ordering from Little Box Pizza’s mobile app.

And the pies? Little Box uses whole-milk mozzarella and a simple, straight-forward sauce of sweet Italian tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil and basil.

The dough is made fresh daily from a blend of finely milled flours.

From there, you can create your own pie and finish with oil or balsamic glaze or try one of their signature pies, such as the carne with sweet sausage, meatballs and pepperoni or the “Shroom” made with finely chopped roasted mushrooms and shallots, fresh ricotta, mozzarella, chives and truffle oil.

Meatball sliders, salads and fresh stuffed cannoli round out the menu.
