Former Borders Spot To Be Filled Soon In Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. — The former home of Borders Books should have a new tenant soon, says Norman Lotstein, the broker handling the Stamford property.

The property, which has remained empty for more than a year, hasn’t languished because of a bad economy or lack of interest, but by Lotstein’s discretion, he said. According to the Pyramid Realty Group broker, several suitors have shown interest in the space at 1041 High Ridge Road.

“It’s critical to have the right retailer in that space,” Lotstein said, describing it as “the anchor” of the High Ridge Shopping Center. “The trick is choosing the best fit.”

Lotstein said he expects to make an announcement “very shortly.”

Many readers commented on the Stamford Daily Voice’s Facebook Page, saying what they would like to see fill the place of Borders Books. The popular responses included Trader Joe's, Walmart, TJ Maxx and chain restaurants.

“Definitely either a family friendly restaurant like T.G.I. Fridays, Applebee's or Olive Garden, or a Walmart. Oh, how happy I would be!” Judy Gonzalez Vivona said.

“Any place we don't have that the commercials tease us with ... Sonic, Joe's Crab Shack, etc.” Susan Lathrop Williams said.

“Most definitely: Trader Joe's or Whole Foods,” Sue Sweeney said, echoing the requests of about 15 others.

Lotstein would not comment on who has shown interest in the space.
