Stamford-based Vineyard Vines recently posted a mea culpa on its blog, after 9-year-old Adair from North Carolina wrote to the company complaining that its lounge pants for men and boys were named “Lounge Pants” but its lounge pants for women and girls were named “Lazy Pants.”
“It made me feel very sad that you call them lazy pants because in my opinion girls are not lazy,” Adair wrote. “My mom works just as hard as my dad. My sister and I work just as hard as the boys at our school.”
Vineyard Vines promptly changed the name of its women’s and girls’ pants to “Lounge Pants” and invited Adair and her family to company headquarters in Stamford so Adair could design her own pair of Lounge Pants.
She designed her pair with fish going one way and a whale going the other.
“She clearly is that whale,” company co-founder Ian Murray told ABC News. “She’s not afraid to follow her own path.”
