Friday's forecast calls for scattered showers and thunderstorms that could produce heavy rain and possible flooding mainly after 1 p.m. Friday, with a 30 percent of rain. In addition, the Weather Service has issued a heat advisory with heat index values expected as high as 102 degrees.
Rain chances increase to 50 percent Friday evening, when storms could again produce gusty winds and heavy rains.
The high heat and thunderstorms are forecast to continue through Saturday and into Sunday night with heavy rains in combination with very high heat indexes on tap. The chance of rain Saturday is 30 percent during the afternoon, increasing to 50 percent Saturday night. Heat indexes could reach as high as 105.
Sunday calls for more of the same with a 40 percent of showers in the afternoon, increasing to 50 percent in the evening with possible heavy rains. Temperatures will once again soar, with heat indexes again reaching to near 100 degrees.
A heat advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 100 to 105 degrees for more than two consecutive hours, said the National Weather Service.
Person with illnesses, seniors and those without air conditioning should take special precautions during a heat advisory which can cause heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Experts suggest residents without air conditioning plan to visit malls, take in a movie or visit a museum. Those in need of help or a cooling center, should call 211 or visit 211CT.org.
