A two-vehicle crash was reported on I-95 southbound in Westport between Exits 18 and 17, DOT said. The slippery conditions were reported on I-95 and I-84 as well as Route 7 and Route 8, along with surface streets across the entire region.

The snow was part of a storm system that was moving through the area, the National Weather Service said in a Special Weather Statement on Saturday.

The snow will continue to fall across the region into early Saturday evening, the weather service said. It will be light to moderate at times with snow accumulations of up to 1 inch in some areas. Temperatures are cold enough for this snow to stick to surfaces, making for some slippery conditions. Motorists were urged to drive carefully and slowly with these conditions.

The snow will continue mainly before 8 p.m., the weather service said. It will be cloudy into the evening as temps drop to about 21 degrees.

There will be a warmup Sunday under sunny skies, with a high near 39 degrees but a wind chill of 15 to 25 degrees, which is warmer than normal for mid-January. It will be much colder Sunday night, with a low of about 14.

For the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday on Monday, it will be sunny, with a high again in the low 40s.

For back to work on Tuesday, there is a chance of snow and freezing rain early, changing to rain and snow by late morning. It will be mostly rain after 11 a.m. The chance of precipitation is 50 percent.
