The advisory, from 2 to 9 a.m. Tuesday, means widespread frost is expected, according to the National Weather Service.

The frost could be damaging to sensitive plants and crops so precautionary measures are advised such as covering them or bringing them indoors.

Monday, the Columbus Day holiday, will remain sunny with temperatures in the upper 50s across Fairfield County.

Temperatures will drop into the mid-30s overnight under clear skies as the Frost Advisory takes effect.

Tuesday will be sunny and warmer with temperatures rising to the mid-60s. Mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the 60s will continue for the rest of the week in Fairfield County. Those temperatures are above normal for mid-October.

The dry conditions for the rest of the week will do little to alleviate the Severe Drought conditions across southern Connecticut, the Weather Service said.

About an inch of rain was recorded Sunday at Sikorsky Airport in Bridgeport, but precipitation levels remain way below normal.

Rainfall totals have been below normal since spring and throughout summer, causing low water levels in many reservoirs and wells. For October, rainfall is already 2 to 3 inches below normal.

Water restrictions have been issued in lower Fairfield County, with watering bans issued for Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk and Stamford.

The Fairfield County area has been under severe drought conditions for the past 30 days.
