STAMFORD, Conn. - Stamford will be under a snow emergency beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday because of the approaching winter storm, Mayor David Martin declared.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning, which lasts until 6 a.m. Wednesday for Fairfield County. The forecast calls for a total of 6 to 10 inches of snow to fall along the coastline by Wednesday morning with below zero wind chills returning for overnight hours.

As of 6 p.m. Tuesday, all vehicles parked on emergency snow routes must be removed. These routes are clearly marked with red and white signs. Vehicles that remain will be ticketed or towed at the owner’s expense.

Any vehicles removed from designated snow routes can be parked in one of three city garages free of charge until 24 hours after the snow emergency has been lifted. Residents living on a snow emergency route may also park on neighboring streets where parking is not prohibited.
