FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- More hot weather is in store for Fairfield County on Thursday, though the area could get some relief in the form of rain this afternoon and evening.

Thursday is expected to be mostly sunny, with a high near 94, according to the National Weather Service. There is a 20 percent chance of precipitation this afternoon, with isolated showers and thunderstorms possible after 2 p.m. That chance will increase into the evening and night, when there is a 40 percent chance of showers and storms after 9 p.m. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain, with flash flooding possible. The low Thursday night will be around 70.

Conditions will be drier on Friday and a little less hot. The day is expected to be sunny, with a high near 90, though heat index values could reach 95. Friday night will be partly cloudy, with a low around 64.

Some rain could hit the region this weekend, which is expected to be much cooler. On Saturday there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m., with some storms producing heavy rain. Otherwise the day will be partly sunny with a high near 83. Saturday night is expected to be mostly cloudy with a low around 68, though there is a 40 percent chance of showers.

Showers are likely on Sunday, with the possibility of a thunderstorm as well. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent, and the high is predicted to be near 81. On Sunday night there is a 50 percent chance of rain, with a low around 69.
