The Connecticut Department of Transportation Bridge Safety and Evaluation Unit inspected the bridge this week and recommended to the city that it be closed to traffic. The bridge was immediately closed by the city's office of operations.

The bridge is located on Riverbank Road between Laurel Ledge Road and Hedge Brook Road, and runs over the east branch of the Mianus River.

Detours will be in place while the bridge is closed.

The city said it was already in the process of designing a replacement for the bridge, and that based on this new assessment, it is looking at multiple options to expedite that process.
